Windows 8: Features And Needed Information
Windows 8 is the successor version of Windows 7, which sets an expectation to change Windows entirely but keeping some key functionality same. According to recent studies, nearly 90% of modern computers run some flavour of windows which gives Microsoft the authority to change the newer version up side down. Windows 8 offers support for ARM processors[mostly used in mobile devices] other than Intel and AMD. The new interface metro is designed to support touch screens, Keyboard & Mouse and pen devices. Windows 8’s server version is named as Windows Server 8. Windows Server 8 includes a new file system called protogon, which is now known as ReFS.
Windows 8 is enriched with new features which will make it unique. Some of the main features are the following:
New User Interface – Metro
The new UI metro resembles Windows phone OS, and having tiles instead of files and folders which is built using Microsoft’s Metro design language. Windows 8 has maintained its conventional desktop and users can toggle it with a single click. Metro application will run in full screen and users can see a small number of information on each tile. The “Consumer Preview” looks us think that Microsoft has removed the glob shaped windows from the lift side of the task bar and left a hot spot instead of that.
When an application is opened in Metro, it takes the full screen and if you need you can toggle it to the traditional desktop. Just take an example you are opening IE 10. It will be opened in full screen and call function menus using right click.
Windows 8 provides 2 new authentication modes to the users. Picture password allows the users to login by drawing 3 gestures on the pictures. The second method is PIN login, which allows the users to enter 4 digit number to login. Explorer is having toolbar which displays the status of file operations, and even you can pause the file transfers. Also it allows to view more detailed statistics. Also it will surely surely support USB 3.0 which will offer faster file transfer.
